Summer Job at ALMA: Comprehensive Skills and Eagerness to Learn

Topias Mäkinen had already dealt with ALMA in the role of a user in connection with his previous summer jobs. He ended up working at ALMA because the company seemed fascinating and offered the opportunity to learn something new.

At present, Topias is studying music education at the University of Oulu and is aiming for a Master’s degree in educational sciences. Topias has also studied construction engineering for one year at the Savonia University of Applied Sciences.

This summer, Topias mainly worked with a large customer project, focusing on data migrations. He has learned a lot about using Excel and gained valuable experience related to customer meetings and working with customers. He enjoys customer-centred approach, and maintenance-related work has opened up new perspectives for him.

Topias knew that working at ALMA would be an educational experience, and has undoubtedly developed his problem-solving and information-seeking skills. Previous experience with ALMA in the role of a user has helped him to adapt quickly, and after the initial induction, he has been able to dive into the work process smoothly. Help has always been available, even though the regular team has been on vacation.

“The best part of this job has been learning new things, flexibility, and working with the customers. A certain wind power-related project was particularly interesting,” Topias points out. This project offered him an opportunity to put the lessons learned in practice and further develop his skills.

Summer is almost over and autumn is already at the door. It is time for ALMA’s last summer worker to return to university and continue his studies.
