Dashboard Tells the User All the Important Details
As the name suggests, the dashboard of an IT system is like the dashboard of a car. The user sees all the up-to-date information important for him or her at a glance. In ALMA, the dashboard contents can be customised comprehensively for the system’s different user levels.
The company’s top management is interested in certain key figures, while key figures of another kind are required for planning and operational activities. With the help of various dashboards, all personnel groups can obtain the information important for them at the right time. Dashboards keep different users from drowning under the potentially huge amounts of data stored in the information system.
Dashboards are used to visualize data in an easy-to-use and comprehensible format. Dashboards are support tools for the daily work of the personnel. Working is enhanced, as relevant data are always available in real time and finding data is not time-consuming.
In the past, data currently displayed on dashboards 24/7 was retrieved from information systems in the form of separate reports and analysed at dedicated meetings. All these data are now available for those interested all the time and up-to-date.
Not just the surface
In ALMA, dashboards are interactive. Accordingly, you can click on a general key figure in the dashboard to display more detailed information about that key figure and its underlying events.
Information, alerts and warnings for different levels of daily operation
Dashboards provide the company’s management with information related to strategic decision-making, while indicating active fault reports and jobs, for example, to the maintenance personnel. Dashboards may also contain Top 10 lists used for planning support. In ALMA, dashboards can be used as information boards for sharing information with the personnel – for example, on the development of occupational safety. Views can be configured extensively for different levels or access limited to specific user groups. It is also possible to share information with co-operation partners.
The comparison of the IT system dashboard to the car dashboard is quite appropriate. The car dashboard indicates the speed and RPM to the driver, but it also warns the driver about various events and malfunctions. If the value of a key figure falls or rises above the alarm limit or a critical problem requires user intervention, a respective notification is displayed in the dashboard. When essential issues are brought forward, they can be addressed in good time.
The right data in the right format
Dashboards nearly always differ between companies. General Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) are being included in dashboards increasingly often. In case of some key figures, it is a good idea to use predefined standards that establish certain jointly agreed and accepted thresholds for the data and figures. Standards also provide for comparability of data.
Vitec ALMA has extensive experience with information systems of different companies. We can also help you take advantage of maintenance standard KPIs.
The right data must be available at the right time, in the right place and in the right format.
